Are you a Home Schooler or would you like to be? The Winchester Area Homeschoolers Association is
a voluntary support group for homeschooling families and those interested in homeschooling
in the Winchester Virginia and Northern Shenandoah Valley area. WAHA is here to provide a
support network for homeschoolers. The bond that holds members of WAHA together is their
collective dedication to homeschooling as an educational alternative. WAHA's primary mission is
to support members as they seek to live out this commitment on a daily basis. Assisting new
homeschoolers is one of our top priorities. The first year of homeschooling provides unique
challenges for families. WAHA will help to provide support and information to first-year
homeschoolers as they face these challenges. WAHA is also part of a support system for
the established homeschoolers. We strive to provide cooperative learning activities and
socialization opportunities for both children and parents. We focus a great deal on
field trips and group activities that provide both education and fun. We also make sure
our members are aware of educational and legislative information relative to
homeschooling. Much of this information is given through our groups private message
forum on The Apple Peelwebsite. Membership is open to any person regardless of age, race,
religious ideology, or gender.

This can be hard on the child and on the family. Is there interest in having a special list, or an
occasional parent meeting, for families of kids with special needs? We could arrange speakers, or just
share our own successes and challenges.

This is a group created to bring together homeschooling families in Orange County Virginia and
nearby surrounding areas. Although we are a small county, I'm sure there are many more like
myself who wish to connect for local activities and play dates, avoiding long commutes to
Fredricksburg and beyond. My hope is that this list will become an active place for discussion,
friendship, and eventually bringing more of the classes and activities that we all drive so far
for now, into our own community. This group has no religous affiliation, and all faiths and
homeschool styles are welcome!

This 10-year-old group has "approximately 50 years of home schooling experience including
children who are learning challenged." It meets "primarily to encourage the
educator, because we live in an area where there are many, many activities, so we don't feel as
a group that we need to plan them." This year the group is meeting alternately in a home and
a restaurant every month. A $5 membership fee for the year offsets any needed mailings. The group
has built a small library over the years, with "how to home school" books, and shares
Sonlight curricula collectively. "We are not specifically a faith based group, but our monthly
devotionals come from the Bible. This year we are working through a peacemaker series from
